A light I turn on every night displays in the morning as it turned off when it is still on. Giving verbal commands to my Google home results in lots of glitches lately. Grouping lights in one room together so that they all go on or off at the same time is a nightmare that shouldn't happen, and required a lot of workarounds to make it stop. Too easy to accidentally turn a light off when trying to dim or charge colors.

For compatibility across multiple brands of phone and audio system, Chromecast is a great option, especially if you own Google speakers. Sonos Roam is a $169 battery-powered speaker that connects to Wi-Fi for the primary goal of streaming music. So, let’s start by talking about sound quality.

It has built-in Chromecast, Airplay 2, Bluetooth, direct streaming services such as Spotify Connect, etc. Heck, it's even "Sonos compatible" (which really just means tested to turn on when Sonos connect/port gets a signal or whatnot). Many other brands attempt to lock you out of something .

There’s also an easy toggle for the mic if you want added privacy. InJanuary 2020, Sonos brought a patent infringement case against Google targeting Google's smart speakers, the Google Home, and later the Nest Audio line. To hear Sonos tell the story, Google got a behind-the-scenes look at Sonos' hardware in 2013, when Google agreed to build Google Play Music support for Sonos speakers. Sonos claims Google used that access to "blatantly and knowingly" copy Sonos' audio features for the Google Home speaker, which launched in 2016. There are dozens of apps that support Chromecast, but here we're going to concentrate on ones that are audio-focused. Apps include Spotify, Pandora, YouTube Music, TuneIn and more -- go here for a full list.
Just say “Hey Google”
Just invested in both along with some extensive Lutron Caseta dimmers. Would really like to stay with Google but I really want that integration with the Playbar. Any help/feedback is greatly appreciated. The information in this post applies to the original Google Home, the Google Home Mini, and the Google Home Max, too.

Turn on the lights, adjust the thermostat, or get an alert when there’s a person or package at your front door. Google Home on WearOS will be available as a preview as we continue to add controls and improvements. To round out the experience, battery life is good.

Quirks like these are ways Sonos pushes you to use their app, but outside of setup, that’s not something I’ve done. You don’t need to use that app if you just want to add the Roam to your Google Assistant ecosystem. If you want to learn a bit more about how the Roam interacts with other Sonos products, Chris Welch has an excellent overview over at the Verge. I'm a fan of a product like the Onkyo TX-NR696... Totally agnostic since Onkyo isn't in the market of streaming music services, home assistants, etc.

The design keeps the device small, as mentioned, but it’s also well thought out. The rounded triangle ensures audio goes primarily in one direction while also giving you two orientations to put the Roam down. You can put it down horizontally or vertically, the latter being better for accessing the on-device controls. The entire package is IP-rated for water and dust resistance, too, which is great if you’re going to use it near the pool, on a dusty day, or during the threat of rain. Heck, you could even bring it in the shower if you wanted. In fact, a resale market has opened up for the original Chromecast Audio, with models on eBay often selling for significantly more than the original $35 retail price.
” With this Google integration, you’re also able to use other commands to control your smart home, get answers to questions, or manage your schedule. This means a Google Home device can handle all the advanced smart home control features, but you can also tell it to play music through your other Sonos speakers and products. If you add Google Assistant to a Sonos One or Beam, you can use either as a Google Home device.

I didn’t observe that, but it could put a damper on the 10-hour claim if you’re affected. You can bypass Device Utility by using an iPhone, or hoping the setup still goes through the regular Home app. Of course, the timing was perfect — I wish I could convey the extra sarcasm in my tone — for me. I moved into a new apartment about a month ago and was dragging my feet to set up my older Google Home Mini in my bedroom. Hey, in my defense, I had to move the bed to plug it in. So when I heard that the setup process was about to get worse, I thought I still had time to do it right.
Having the ability to Chromecast to a device then having it send AirPlay to Sonos would work, but I don't think that exists. The ability to hand off to Chromecast or cast from Android devices easily is the thing that is missing. Google may have the most affordable multi-room audio setup, but Sonos has one of the best-sounding ones, especially at this price.

But… I have major problems with drop-outs and stuttering when the music is playing. I even got a Cat5/USB adapter thinking that I might have some WiFi interference. I got online with Google and their solution was to reboot the cable modem and restart Chromecast Audio. That worked for about 10 minutes and the stuttering began again. It’s inconsistent… sometimes it’ll play for 20 minutes with only minor glitches, sometimes the dropouts start immediately. There is a chance that in the future you may be able to send audio to Sonos using voice commands and Google Home, without needing Chromecast Audio devices.
Sonos supports a variety of Google Assistant music control commands. Another way you can link Google Assistant and Sonos devices together for select functions is through IFTTT . Sonos One/Beam with Google Assistant included doesn’t support voice commands from multiple users. Additionally, unlike a Google Home, tailored answers for multiple users is not possible. It's expected that Sonos and Google will enable voice match in the future. Select Done in the top-right corner of the Setup Complete page.
We'll send you an e-mail with instructions to reset your password. I want to connect my audio system to google but unfortunately I only find a way to connect my move in Bluetooth to Google. If you don't see a command you'd like to use, you can create a new "applet" command by following the instructions provided by IFTTT. You are prompted to allow IFTTT to work with Google Assistant and Sonos products for the commands you select.
Control smart home devices with voice commands
The Google Home app is designed to show you the status of your home and keep you up to date with what you may have missed. Check in on your home anytime and see a recap of recent events. You can also get a notification if something important happens while you’re away.
